Golden CED applies to the BC Housing Community Fund

Golden Community Economic Development (CED) announces that it has applied to BC Housing’s Community Housing Fund. This application process is extremely competitive and Golden’s downtown housing project is up against other excellent housing projects from across the province. However, Golden CED has put together a compelling application that includes community financial contributions, successful grant funding from various granting sources, and pro bono contributions from local businesses. This application is anticipated to be one of the last financial steps in making the Downtown Housing Project a reality.

Jill Dewtie, Executive Director at Golden CED states, “We are pleased to celebrate such a big milestone for the downtown housing project. With the support of our development consultants and community partners, we feel we have created the best project and funding application possible for the downtown site to meet the housing needs of our residents and increase the vibrancy and economic growth in our historic downtown core.”

The Downtown Housing Project is an innovative community housing development project that prioritizes affordability, sustainability and inclusivity. All of the units are restricted to local Golden residents with low or moderate incomes. The rental rates are to be determined by a tenant’s income. For accessibility purposes, three of the units are designed to be universally accessible. In addition to these three units’ special design, all the units will be wheelchair or mobility device-friendly in case someone eventually needs such accessibility within their living space. Another noteworthy feature is that the building will nurture the growing business needs of Golden’s historic downtown core by offering small boutique-sized rental units with high visibility from foot traffic along storefront sidewalks. This new mixed-use building will be a valuable addition not only to the quality of life for residents but also to help revitalize the charming historic downtown core.
