Get ready for a 9-1-1 ball at Emerald Lake Lodge

Emerald Lake Lodge is the venue for the Golden/Field 1st Annual 9-1-1 Emergency Services Ball.

RCMP Regimental Balls are common nationwide, so local emergency personnel decided to bring that idea to Golden.

“It came up as an idea last year when I moved here. My hometown does one yearly,” said RCMP officer Spencer Lainchbury, one of the event’s organizers. The ball will be modelled after the annual one in Lainchbury’s hometown of Drayton Valley, which is a bit less formal than the traditional Regimental Balls.

“We’re bringing a little bit of that into it, with a couple of the toasts and that sort of thing,” he said.

Hosted by the beautiful Emerald Lake Lodge, the ball features a four-course meal (steak, fish, or vegetarian), followed by a dance.

“I haven’t tried that dinner menu, but I have eaten out there for lunch and had dinner there. It’s excellent food,” said Lainchbury.

The ball, organized by Golden/Field RCMP, Golden Fire, Nicholson Fire, Field Fire, BC Ambulance, and CP Police, supports STARS Air Ambulance.

“It’s a pretty vital service for us. I’ve been at crashes at the Roger’s Summit, where they’ve been out at night. It’s a huge asset to us,” said RCMP officer Chris Wolfram, another organizer. “They need our support.”

STARS is an Alberta-based, not-for-profit that transports patients to hospitals. Golden is fortunate enough to be served by STARS helicopters; otherwise, it would have to wait for a BC Ambulance helicopter from Kamloops or Kelowna.

Representatives from STARS will be at the ball, and a patient who used an air ambulance will be there to talk about the experience.

The attire will be formal (but not black tie), with emergency services personnel wearing their dress uniforms. Feel free to dance the night away before retiring to your room at Emerald Lake Lodge.

Tickets are $75 per person and are available at the RCMP Detachment, the Golden Fire Hall, and the Parks Canada Office. Rooms at the Lodge can be booked by calling 250-343-6321 and quoting 9-1-1 Ball for a special room rate.

There will be a cash bar, and Emerald Lake Lodge only accepts cash or credit.

For more information, contact Spencer Lainchbury at spencer.lainchbury@rcmp-grc.gc.ca or Chris Wolfram at christopher.wolfram@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
