Last year the Golden and District Community Foundation (GDCF) was able to put $53,378.28 into the local community through various grants, scholarships, and awards. A highlight from 2023 was the success of two recipients from the Cantle Grant Program who received funding for their artistic pursuits. Lane Matthews received funding for photography, and Joan Lowenstein hosted multiple printmaking workshops. For a comprehensive list of how the funds were utilized in 2023, please visit our annual report on our website: www.goldencommunityfoundation.ca/about

Currently, the Community Foundation has two grants programs available for individual community members: the Neighbourhood Small Grants program and the Cantle Grant Program. The Neighbourhood Small Grants support community projects that are designed to bring people together. Individuals can apply for up to $500 to fund their project or event. Projects funded so far this year include a kids lego club, a BBQ event for the Golden Running Club, a kids multi-sport program, community gardens and workshops, a glee club, and a herb gathering workshop. All of these initiatives bring the community together in a unique way. The Application period has been extended and applications will be accepted until September 20th, or until the funding runs out; get your application in today!
The Cantle Grant Program has a goal of enriching the community through arts and culture. It provides funding to individuals for grass-roots art projects. Funds from this grant can be used to cover participant expenses, locally facilitated workshops, art supplies, or large equipment. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Highlighted in the photos is one of many projects funded by the Neighbourhood Small Grants. This project was organized by Ingrid Risch in Parson. Ingrid used the funding to purchase sports equipment for regular sports activities for the kids who live in Parson. Here is what Ingrid had to say about the project, “We’ve been having a ball out here in Parson for the past few weeks. We’ve received our baseball, basketball, and kickball equipment, including a pump, etc… We celebrated our annual Sports Day, featuring various relay events, ball-throwing competitions, skill exercises, basketball practice, and more. It was an enjoyable day. We had 18 kids come out today, plus parents.”

The Golden and District Community Foundation’s mission is to foster a culture of reciprocity and collaboration – creating a space for donors to tackle community issues and form lasting bonds with organizations addressing them – ensuring a depth of impact that resonates through generations.
