The summer season proved to be a busy one for the Golden Visitor Centre, welcoming travellers from around the globe! From adventure seekers to those looking for a quiet getaway, the centre has been the go-to hub for information, helping visitors make the most of their time in Golden. With thousands of guests stopping by, this season highlighted the growing interest in the region’s natural beauty, outdoor activities, and local culture.
Here are some stats from the 2024 summer season at our local visitor centre:
• The Golden Visitor Centre was operational from May long weekend, Friday, May 24th to Monday, September 30th.
• Our Visitor Information Counsellors provided services to 14,472 visitors throughout the summer, not including the thousands who exclusively used the newly renovated bathrooms and site facilities or visited the food establishment – Bubbles & Crepes
• Visitation numbers reflect a 36.8% increase compared to 2023.
• 54% of visitors stayed overnight in our community for up to seven days.
• Visitors from the United States (California, Washington, Texas, among many others) and European countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and France led the international visitation. Meanwhile, Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario residents led the provincial visitation.
• Two hundred twenty (220) residents used the Visitor Centre’s services, including purchasing Park passes, using the Sani Dump station, or picking up hiking or biking maps.
• The Mobile Visitor Centre reached up to 400 folks, visitors and locals, at community events.
“The Golden Visitor Centre had a remarkably successful summer season. Visitation-wise, we noticed a 36.8% increase compared to 2023. The steady 30% rise in our numbers throughout the summer and the numerous travellers altering their plans during and after the unfortunate wildfires in Jasper led us to extend our closing date by one week until September 30th”, said Mariela Encina Lanus, the Destination Services Manager.
“We are pleased to see a substantial increase in the number of residents using the Visitor Centre’s services. Additionally, our mobile Visitor Centre has significantly expanded its presence at community events, including regular attendance at the Farmers Market and at the Golden Skybridge Markets, where we have engaged with up to 400 locals and visitors.”
Whether it’s connecting visitors with new adventures or helping them explore Golden’s local amenities, the centre remains dedicated to ensuring everyone who passes through is prepared to find the Golden experience that suits them best. The visitor centre will reopen its doors next summer to welcome visitors into our community!
