Golden Women’s Centre Annual Fundraiser celebrates fifth year (2025)

The Golden Women’s Centre (GWRC) annual fundraising raffle calendar is celebrating its fifth year! Born out of creativity when the pandemic challenged us to find new and engaging ways to connect (and fundraise) without gathering together. The premise is simple, purchase a ticket, and be entered to win a prize each day for the month of February all while helping to fund support programs and services for women and girls in our community. One ticket gets you entered each day of the month.

Kelly Sudsbury, Fundraising Coordinator at the GWRC, says “The community has been really supportive. We’ve had a lot of great support from local businesses donating prizes, with a few businesses donating every year.” The concept of daily prizes also creates a sense of fun and anticipation, welcoming feelings during the winter months. Winners of the daily prize are announced via the Women’s Centre social media each day at 3:00 pm and listed in their window display.

The Golden Women’s Resource Centre provides critical support and services to women and their children experiencing, or at risk of violence and abuse. They also provide services open to all women, girls, nonbinary and gender-queer people comfortable in a space centred on women’s experiences, such as Good Karma clothing swap, computer and printing access, comfortable lounge with tea and coffee, after school program for youth and social-emotional support for all of life’s highs and lows. The raffle calendar is the organization’s main fundraiser and provides essential funds to support the delivery of these services. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated. For more information, visit: https://goldenwomencentre.ca/events/.

Tickets are $25 each or 3 for $50 and can be purchased at the GWRC, Moon River Gift Gallery, 407 Boutique, Reflections Hair Salon and Selkirk Ski and Bike until January 31 at 3:00 pm. BC Event Gaming License #156623.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
