Fourteen students from Golden Secondary School took on the prestigious University of Waterloo contest exam challenge this spring. The University of Waterloo contests test high school students in mathematics and give them an opportunity to see how they measure up against some of the brightest students globally.
Meeting once a week during lunch hours, the students worked diligently on problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Their hard work paid off, with all participants performing admirably and several earning recognitions for their achievements.
Four students distinguished themselves with exceptional results:
• Riwon Sim, Grade 11: Certificate & Medal of Distinction
• Liam Hartwig & Thomas Comeau, Grade 8: Certificate of Distinction, and Certificate of Outstanding Achievement
• Hannah Baylis, Grade 8: Certificate of Distinction
“The collaboration involved in practicing created a sense of teamwork between the grades. I am excited to see this trend continue next year,” Gloria Lowe, teacher sponsor.
Leo Keefer, teacher sponsor, praised the students for their dedication and success. “Our students’ performance in this challenging contest is a testament to their hard work and passion for learning. We are incredibly proud of their achievements.”
The GSS community congratulates all the participants and celebrates their academic accomplishments.
