In November, Tourism Golden launched a sticker contest for participants to submit a sticker design. This was their second year running the art contest and this year’s prompt was: “Winter icons of Golden, but make it look like a postage stamp”. After a round of voting with their six finalists, the votes were tallied, and Kaitlyn Gallacher was announced as this year’s winner!
Here’s what she had to say about her winning design:
- Give a little intro for yourself and how long you’ve lived in Golden.
I was born just down the street in the Golden Hospital 35 years ago. I’ve always loved the mountains, valleys and rivers – the fresh air and freedom have always lured me outside. I’ve been an avid hiker, explorer, and photographer since my mom carried me up mountains in a backpack my whole life.
- What inspired the design for the sticker? Is the design based on a landmark from around Golden?
Any inspiration I have comes from the mountains we’re surrounded by. This painting in particular was a night ski in the Blaeberry with my sister, when the sky was so clear you could see the Milky Way and every star in the sky made the snow on the mountains glow.
- Can you share a bit about your artistic background?
I wasn’t much of an artist a few years ago, but COVID-19 isolation got my creative juices flowing and allowed me to be outside more. I’ve also always loved Bob Ross!
- Where are you going to display your sticker? Where do you hope to see your sticker around the community?
I’ll probably display it in a little frame beside the original painting in the living room so I can gloat about it. Hopefully, everyone in Golden who gets one likes it as much as I do, and I can’t wait to see it in our wonderful local businesses.
Keep an eye out around town for Kaitlyn’s winning design on stickers that will be distributed around town!
