Kicking Horse Mountain Resort will open its downhill mountain biking trails for the summer on June 23. Before the trails officially open for daily use, the resort will be hosting a preview weekend on June 17 and 18.

According to Matt Mosteller, the senior vice president of marketing and resort experience at Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, this is one of the earliest openings of a top-to-bottom trail network.

“This is super exciting for downhill mountain biking enthusiasts,” Mosteller said.

Mosteller, a noted columnist and self-proclaimed ski bum, is known throughout the ski community for his lifelong passion for downhill sports and outdoor adventure.

The Kicking Horse Mountain Resort trail is part of his domain and has his approval. It is known across the continent for its size and quality.

“Kicking Horse provides one of the largest trail networks in Canada and one of the biggest vertical (trails) in North America for downhill mountain biking,” Mosteller said.

This summer, mountain biking passes for adults at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort start at $46.95, with reduced rates available for children and youth. Group passes and multi-day passes are also available. A complete list of rates is available online at the Kicking Horse Resort website.

In addition to mountain biking, there are sightseeing opportunities at the mountain this summer. Among the resort’s attractions are the Golden Eagle Express gondola; trips to the grizzly bear refuge to see Boo, the Bear; and, for thrill seekers, the Via Ferrata, which the Resort calls “a breathtaking climbing experience that simply can’t be missed.”
