The Golden Women’s Resource Center will be hosting its annual Clothesline Project and fundraising barbeque on Thursday, June 15, at Kumsheen Park. The event will take place from 11:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

According to the Women’s Resource Center, the Clothesline Project is “a visual display that bears witness to survivors as well as victims of abuse and gender and identity-based violence.”

The project’s goal is to help with the healing process for victims by offering a creative outlet and a display of solidarity.

“We hope that the display will educate our community and promote an increased awareness of the impacts of violence,” said Sarah Peacock, an outreach worker at the resource centre.

Members of the community are invited to stop by the Women’s Resource Centre on 9th Ave. North to paint or decorate a shirt for the display. A table has been set up in the centre and will be free to use during the centre’s operating hours between June 2 and 14.

At the barbecue, the Rotary Club of Golden will manage the grill and food and beverage will be available by donation to the Women’s Resource Centre. The event is sponsored by RCMP Victim Services.

A Facebook event has been created to provide updates and information to members of the community and can be found online.

Anyone with questions about the event is encouraged to reach out to Sarah Peacock from the resource centre.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
