While Golden and Columbia Shuswap Regional District Electoral Area A residents are grateful for another wet day, Kicking Horse Culture has decided to move the 2023 inaugural Summer Kicks concert into the Civic Centre.

“Everyone’s prayers for rain have been answered and given the radar projections, it’s looking good that it will continue throughout the day and into the evening,” notes a June 14 release. “We’ve done a go-round with our team and all think it makes best sense to decide now and give everyone a chance to make a change in plans to come into the hall to enjoy a rare opportunity to experience the warmth of a Valdy performance.”

The music icon is well-loved for his amazing music and lyrics that speak to all generations. A Member of the Order of Canada, Valdy’s passion is to create a better world, through his vast repertoire of folk, country, blues and pop songs.

The young members of School of Rock’s Noise Pollution will bring their teenage passion between Valdy’s sets, making this a truly generational community gathering!

Tonight’s concert takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Golden Civic Centre.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canadaโ€™s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, itโ€™s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
