Meet the (local) maker: Crystal Schuler of Blaeberry Fire

Blaeberry fire

Passionate candle-maker and owner of Blaeberry Fire, Crystal Schuler loves creating her earth-friendly, organic, and beautiful candles at her studio in the Blaeberry in Golden, B.C.

Schuler creates affordable candles she says she is proud of. When deciding to become a professional candle-maker she spent two months perfecting her design. The results of her hard-work and research helped her create a “luxury” candle that has a “perfect balance” to help create a soul-soothing experience for her clientele.

“I wanted to make an affordable luxurious candle, so I spent a lot of time and read a lot of books to find the perfect formula,” Schuler says, explaining the perfect formula for a luxurious candle includes the right balance of organic oils and coconut wax for the base of her candle; a long burn-time; wooden wicks that “crackle” when lit, and a solid refillable base that helps minimize waste and encourages customers to reconnect for more wax if they chose.

Scent options are available for returning customers and her representation of the Blaeberry River through the addition of three “signature stones” set in the top of the candle provides a unique final touch to each candle she creates.

“I think a lot of people don’t know about the process of making them. It’s really cool,” she says. She says from start to finish it takes about 10 days for each candle to come to completion. She says she is proud of her design and the work she puts into them. Shop for Blaeberry Fire candles at the Golden Artisan Co-op or local Farmer’s Markets. She says customers who visit her booth at the summer markets are in awe of how professionally-designed her candles are.

“They are convinced they were manufactured in a factory somewhere,” she says. She enjoys creating them and looks forward to sharing new colour-schemes and designs with friends and family when they visit her home on the Blaeberry River. “It’s so nice to have a choice on what candle and scent I want to have in the house everyday,” she says.

Blaeberry Fire offers hand poured organic coconut blended candles in handmade concrete vessels offered in a variety of colours. The candles are finished with a wooden wick and scented with phthalate and paraben free fragrance oils. Contact her to learn about refilling your vessels once they’re empty!

On top of candles, she also offers various other home living products such as soap dishes, small plant holders and vases made of concrete.
