Witchy reads for fall – Since we are NOT going to talk about the mosquitoes… let’s talk about the Fall Reading Season and all the new titles being released! Yes, we have moved on from summer at the bookstore and are well into Witchy Season and Fall New Releases!
We have all heard about beach reads, summer reads, vacay reads, and the like, but we realize that not everyone reads all summer long. Fall is widely known as cozy season, when many people start rooting around for a good book to curl up with on cooler autumn mornings and increasingly chilly evenings.
We have been reading advanced reading copies all summer long and are looking forward to unpacking boxes of new books to put on the shelves.
Along with new releases, we are excited about new events coming to the store. There’s been talk about book clubs and writing workshops… fall is a time for back to school and fresh starts, and we are excited for cozy days in the bookstore after a wonderful and busy summer.
I managed to delve into a new genre for me, as I have been promising to do. Romantasy! Yep, you heard me. And guess what? I love it. I started with cozy, witchy books and have continued into wider subjects. And I just can’t stop.
The first book was A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna. I have been staring at it for months as it sits on the shelf across from the desk at the store – being a bookseller, I know that it was actually the book calling to me and I was resisting! I can’t really say what finally made me give in, but when I sat down and started to read, I was completely consumed.
I would describe the style of the book as similar to an adult Harry Potter in the sense of the incredible imagination put into the events in the book, the details in the personalities of the characters and the hilarity that ensues within the pages.
I was completely enraptured by the story, and soon the budding romance between two witches, Sera and Luke, both of whom heat up pleasantly. Part of what thrilled me the most was the irreverence of real-talk, if you will – this was an unabashed real-life fantasy witch!
The second I closed the book, I moved on to Stacy Sivinski’s The Crescent Moon Tearoom, the first book in The Spellbound Sisters series. Similar in content and coziness, there is no swearing (unless you count “Medusa’s Curls,” which they do), but there is a beautiful, pure romance and many life-altering decisions to be made.
I’ve got book two, which comes out on October 7, The Witching Moon Manor, waiting on my bedside table and under that is Cecilia Edwards’ new book, An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating, which I started yesterday and have read half of already.
Lastly, I am going to dive into an advanced copy of The Hearth Witch’s Guide to Magic & Murder by Kiri Callaghan. This is one of our fantastic fall releases, released on October 7th and will be the first in The Hemlock Series. I AM SO EXCITED!
There are, of course, so many other wonderful books, in all genres, that we are collectively excited about… I hope you’ll come in and say hi, tell us about your summer and stock up on whatever a cozy fall read means to you! See you soon.
