Elite Nutrition celebrates 20 year anniversary

What inspired you to start Elite Nutrition?

• Linda: I was in the food and beverage industry and we planned on opening a café. When that fell through due to many town building regulations we decided to go the route of a retail nutrition store. Mike already had a background in this industry and I was interested to learn.

• Mike: Golden Health Foods had been in the business for 13 years. This was an easy transition.

Talk a bit about what the milestone of your 20th Anniversary means to you.

• Linda: Well it sometimes makes me feel old, but really I could not be prouder! It is not always easy being a business owner. We have invested a lot of time and money to keep doors open and shelves stocked! I just love our store, the smells, the calm environment, helping others feel better and the customers always bring a great energy!

How long have you been a part of the Golden community?

• Linda: I grew up in London, Ontario. Moved to Vancouver for about 3 years. In August 2001, I ended up in Golden for a season… and stayed for a lifetime! It happens to a lot of people! Meeting Mike was one reason I stayed and the friends I had made here. After opening up Elite in April 2004, getting married to a local and having kids… it was final. I was officially a local!

• Mike: My family came over from Italy in 1886, making me a local well before Linda.

What are some of the unique challenges you’ve faced over the years, operating a business in Golden? Pro’s and con’s of doing business in a small town?

• Linda: Well, you really get to know your customers. That’s definitely a pro of a small town! They have a great experience and keep coming back! It’s personal to work in a small community. And I guess a con would be that people often think our town does not have things and instantly goes online.

Mike: I like the family feel of a small town community, supporting each other. Cons are online shopping and people thinking they are getting a better deal from the big box stores in the city.

What are some surprising things that people might not know about your business?

• Linda: Not only can we help with nutritional needs and supplementation but we carry many beautiful gift items like natural candles, essential oils, natural spa body care and great useful gift items.

What’s next in store for Elite Nutrition?

• Linda: Keep on keepin’ on!

To celebrate this significant milestone, Elite Nutrition is offering some great specials:

• Draw a discount, up to 50% off

• SWAG bags to the first 50 customers

• Enter to win gift baskets of up to $200 value
