Golden’s Humble Tattoo Co. welcomes all tattoo enthusiasts

Humble Tattoo Co.

Humble Tattoo Co. is owned and operated by Brett Davis (tattoo artist) and Lexi Nicol (manager). We have recently hired another tattoo artist, Austin Gregg.

What inspired you to start Humble Tattoo Co.?

Brett has dreamt of starting his own tattoo studio since he picked up a tattoo machine over a decade ago. That dream (and the noticeable gap in the tattoo market) drove us to create a clean, professional space right here in Golden where clients could feel comfortable getting tattooed. We chose the name ‘Humble Tattoo Company’ because we want everyone who comes through our doors to feel welcome, whether it’s their first tattoo or their fiftieth. Our goal is to create quality tattoos and memories that will last a lifetime.

How long have you been a part of the Golden Community?

Brett and I (Lexi) fell in love with Golden and the people here during a visit in 2019 and knew it was the place for us! Fast forward to 2021, and we officially planted our roots here by opening Humble Tattoo Company in September of that year. Since then, we’ve been actively involved in the community, hosting flash day fundraisers and collaborating with other local businesses to contribute to the vibrant Golden community.

Did you have any additional experience with business/entrepreneurship before starting Humble Tattoo Co.?

No, we have been flying by the seat of our pants, learning as we go! Brett brings over a decade of hands-on experience from working in different tattoo shops, giving him a solid understanding of the industry’s ins and outs. On the other hand, I have communication and organizational skills from my teaching career that I’m able to apply to business operations. It’s been a learning curve for us both, but we’ve dedicated countless hours to growing Humble Tattoo Company.

What are the pros and cons of running a business in a small town?

Running a business in the small town of Golden has so many benefits! The community vibe here is unbeatable, and everyone is all about supporting local businesses like ours. We’ve built real friendships with our clients – we bump into them all the time, whether we’re grabbing groceries or just out for a stroll. Our tattoo portfolio can be found walking around the town, which is why we always put our heart and soul into every tattoo. A potential disadvantage of running a business in Golden would be that word travels fast, but we kind of like that here at Humble!

What would you like to tell people who have never gotten a tattoo before?

Stay that way, you’re a unicorn! But in all seriousness, if you’re thinking of getting your first tattoo or just want to explore the world of tattoos, we’re here to guide you. At Humble, we offer in-person consultations with no obligation to book, where you can discuss your ideas and questions with our experienced artists. We encourage you to browse artists’ portfolios, check out images of healed work, and read online reviews to ensure that you have the best possible experience for your first tattoo.

Anything else you’d like to share!

Join us for our Flash Day Fundraiser on Saturday, March 16th! Brett and our new artist, Austin, will be offering $160 tattoos from their custom flash pages. We’ll be donating $20 from each tattoo and all tips to the Golden Food Bank. Sign up for our newsletter at humbletattoocompany.com/newsletter for more details.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
