Spin is Back: Golden’s Gym Reintroduces Cycling Classes

Golden’s Gym has brought back a long-missed fitness favourite — spin classes. Popularized a few years back, spin is a high-intensity workout on stationary bikes, often set to energizing music and vibrant lights, creating a workout-party-on-wheels atmosphere.

Spin classes were once offered in Golden, but after the pandemic, many fitness enthusiasts turned to at-home options like Peloton. Now, under new ownership, Golden’s Gym is reviving this community-loved activity.

A New Chapter for Golden’s Gym

In late 2024, the gym was on the verge of shutting down when a group of passionate locals—Mike, Amy, Christy, Sean, and Heather—took over. After quick renovations and improvements, they reopened the doors with a renewed vision for the facility. One of their first questions to the community was whether there was interest in spin classes. The response? A resounding yes!

With that in mind, the team transformed the upstairs area of the gym into a space that could accomodate spin. They also brought on three spin instructors, including one of their own, Christy, to lead the classes. Though the space limits the number of bikes available, the demand has already been strong.

Hitting the Spin Floor

During the first week of classes, I attended a 9 AM Saturday session led by instructor Chantelle Schacher — a great way to start the day without an early wake-up call.

Right away, I was impressed with the gym’s new Bluetooth door system—simple, efficient, and hassle-free. This was my first time visiting since the new ownership, and I immediately noticed the expanded entryway, which now offers plenty of space for coats, shoes, and bags. The former front desk has been removed, but don’t think they aren’t around. The owners are regularly onsite, cleaning and maintaining the space themselves.

Upstairs, eight bikes were set up—seven for participants and one for the instructor. Schacher greeted each of us, making sure our bikes were properly adjusted before we kicked things off with a quick warm-up.

The Ride Experience

I’ll admit—I was nervous. I had only done spin once before, years ago in the city, and I remembered it being intense. Spin is more than just pedaling; it involves adjusting intensity, standing for sections, and even “jumping,” where you alternate between sitting and standing.

Schacher reassured us that everyone was on their own ride—she was just there to guide us. She encouraged us to push ourselves as much as we wanted, but reminded us that no one was paying attention to anyone else—everyone was focused on their own bike.

With that, the next 45 minutes flew by. The playlist was a perfect mix of classic rock and pop hits, choreographed to match the ride’s various intensities. I loved that I recognized most of the songs, making it easy to sync my movements to the beat. I even caught myself singing along (in my head, of course).

A Welcomed Return to Golden’s Fitness Scene

With spin officially back, Golden’s Gym has added an exciting new option for fitness enthusiasts looking for a high-energy, music-driven workout. The revamped gym, dedicated team, and enthusiastic instructors have created a welcoming space for both beginners and experienced riders alike.

“We are excited to offer group cycling classses at Golden’s Gym! Spin class is a great way to keep your biking legs strong throughout the winter, meet your cardio fitness goals, or enjoy the atmosphere of riding along to banging music with your friends!

We offer a variety of class times throughout the week. All you need is a pair of sneakers and a waterbottle! Sign up for a class on the Gymmaster app. We can’t wait to ride with you!” says the Golden’s Gym team.

Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself, shake up your fitness routine, or just have some fun, these new spin classes are worth checking out!

If you give it a try and love it, Golden’s Gym offers spin punch cards—making it easy to stay motivated while saving money on classes. Be sure to follow their socials (FB: Goldens Gym 24/7 and IG: @goldensgym247) to stay up to date on what is happening at the gym!
