Local favourite, The Riverhouse, set to reopen after fire closure

After more than a year and a half of closure following a fire, a beloved local restaurant is on track to reopen, bringing a familiar atmosphere and a renewed sense of community.

Owner Chris Soper, known simply as โ€œSoper,โ€ said the opportunity to revive the space came together unexpectedly. โ€œWe got offered it back again, so weโ€™re back,โ€ he said. โ€œIt just worked outโ€ฆluck of the draw.โ€

The fire, caused by an electrical issue in the roof, forced the restaurant to shut down, but much of its character remains intact. โ€œEverything else is pretty much the same,โ€ Soper noted, adding that the popular wood-fired pizza oven will return as a centrepiece of the menu.

Soper and a small team have been working to get the space ready, though progress is currently paused while awaiting final architectural approvals. โ€œRealistically, from right now to open, we could do it in 14 days,โ€ he said. โ€œWeโ€™re just waiting.โ€

When it does reopenโ€”hopefully in time for summerโ€”the focus will be on keeping things simple and accessible. โ€œWeโ€™re not trying to be fancy,โ€ Soper said. โ€œJust priced as a normal person can afford.โ€

With longtime staff returning and new hires on the way, Soper is optimistic about whatโ€™s ahead. โ€œWe just do our thing,โ€ he said. โ€œIf youโ€™re into it, cool. If youโ€™re not, cool.โ€

Although the reopening date is not set in stone, the wait isnโ€™t long, Golden. So when the Riv opens again, letโ€™s welcome it back with open arms.
