Emergency Information Update: July 27, 2024 at 6 p.m.⁣⁣

The Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) in Golden remains activated and incident responders continue to work on the fire. The weather continues to remain stable. Helicopters continue bucketing to cool the fire’s edge or flareups as visibility and objectives require. ⁣⁣

BC Wildfire has assigned an Incident Management Team (IMT) to support the Dogtooth wildfire and other wildfires in the region. IMTs consist of a diverse group of skilled personnel dedicated to a common goal of managing complex wildfire events. Four initial attack crews and one unit crew are currently responding to the fire along with aviation resources, heavy equipment and structure protection. Learn more about wildfire resources here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/…/wildfire-personnel-and… ⁣⁣

The Evacuation Order in the Parson area remains in place and the Evacuation Alert in the area south of Champagne Rd. remains in place. ⁣⁣

We will continue to provide further updates, with the next update expected tomorrow, Sunday, July 28, 2024, as new information becomes available. The Reception Centre at the Golden Senior Centre will be open on Sunday, July 28 from noon to 4 p.m. ⁣⁣

A reminder that wildfires are dynamic and can change rapidly, be prepared and stay tuned to official news sources. To view all information updates and alerts visit www.golden.ca/news , stay tuned on our social media channels or sign up for Alertable at www.csrd.bc.ca/alertable

Get Prepared⁣⁣

With a wildfire in the Golden area, it is a good idea to get prepared in case of an evacuation. You can streamline the process of receiving Emergency Support Services (ESS) by self-registering now on the Evacuee Registration and Assistance website at https://ess.gov.bc.ca/

Take time now to build a grab-and-go kit and make an emergency plan. You can learn about this at www.preparedbc.ca ⁣

Do Your Part. Get FireSmart.

During wildfire season, it’s up to all of us to play a part in keeping our communities safe. The best thing residents can do to reduce the fire risk to their property is to conduct FireSmart activities. This includes removing combustible materials from around homes to create a more fire-resistant area. ⁣⁣

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
