Foundation Vital Pulse Update: Community Engagement moving forward

Golden & District Community Foundation by Golden & District Community Foundation
June 1, 2026
in Local News

After thoughtful discussion, the Golden & District Community Foundation (GDCF) has decided to pause the Vital Pulse survey while we review the program and explore new approaches to community engagement that are sustainable, accessible, and meaningful for our community and partners.

Vital Pulse has played an important role in helping GDCF better understand local priorities, emerging needs, and community perspectives over the years.

The information gathered through the survey has helped inform grant conversations, community partnerships, and participation in initiatives such as the ReDi grant program.

As our organization evolves, we recognize an opportunity to rethink how community engagement can best support our work moving forward. This pause is not a step away from community engagement, rather an opportunity to reflect on how we can strengthen it.

Is Vital Pulse permanently cancelled?

No. Vital Pulse is currently paused, not permanently cancelled. GDCF is exploring future engagement approaches that allow us to gather meaningful feedback in ways that are sustainable, responsive, and community-centred.

How will community input still happen?

Community input remains very important to GDCF. We will continue listening through conversations with residents, nonprofits, local leaders, community partners, grant applicants, events, and other engagement opportunities throughout the year.

We also recognize and trust that nonprofits and community organizations are deeply connected to the people they serve and are often best positioned to identify emerging needs and priorities within their communities.

Existing reports, regional data, collaborations, and ongoing relationships will continue to help guide our understanding of local needs and inform our granting work.

Will there still be opportunities to participate?

Yes. Community members will continue to have opportunities to share ideas, feedback, and priorities through future engagement activities, partnerships, events, and granting conversations.

Over the coming months, GDCF will explore what this next phase of engagement could look like and how the community can continue to participate in meaningful ways.

How does this affect GDCF’s Community Grant Program?

Granting will continue as usual, with an updated application form designed to better align with the needs of the program. More information about those updates will be shared by August 31, 2026.

The pause of the Vital Pulse survey does not affect the availability of grants or GDCF’s ongoing commitment to supporting community wellbeing.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
