A new face at the Golden and District Community Foundation in 2025

Golden Community Foundation

Hey Golden! I’m Anthony Bayou, your 2025 Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) Coordinator, and I’m thrilled to be part of the vibrant Golden and District Community Foundation team.

NSG is a simple but powerful idea that brings people together to share skills and knowledge, celebrate neighbourhoods, and build a sense of belonging and responsibility by providing $50 to $500 to individuals or groups for their initiatives.

Originally from Sheffield, UK, I bring over 15 years of experience in the voluntary and charity sector. My journey began as a youth worker and soccer coach, later evolving into a specialized teaching assistant role in a secondary school.

Most recently, I served as the Youth & Inclusion Manager at Rotherham United Community Trust Football Club. Throughout my career, one thing has remained constant: my passion for people.

Whether working with youth, leading sports programs, or supporting community initiatives, I thrive in roles that build connection and inclusion.

From a young age, I’ve been drawn to team sports and the energy they create. That same passion has guided me into roles like the one I now hold here in Golden—helping foster grassroots initiatives and community-driven projects. When I’m not working on community engagement, you’ll likely find me staying active—playing soccer on Monday nights or training at The Golden Gym.

I’m also an avid traveller, and since arriving in Canada, I’ve completely fallen in love with BC. It already feels like home. I’m excited to get to know the Golden community better, meet its incredible locals, and visit the inspiring projects made possible through this year’s Neighbourhood Small Grants program.

The 2025 NSG cycle is now open for applications and runs until August 30th, 2025. Have a project idea you’d love to bring to life? I’d love to hear from you!

Drop me an email at nsg@goldencommunityfoundation.ca, and let’s chat about how we can support your community vision. I can’t wait to see the creativity and impact Golden and Area A will bring to life in the months ahead!

  • Flashback Friday 📰 Fall 2001!

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
  • A pretty great way to celebrate 25 years! 🎬🍿
