Eddie Leigan of REMAX Golden is bringing back the Golden Holiday Light Competition!

Eddie Leigan from REMAX of Golden is proud to bring back a favourite festive tradition, the Golden Holiday Light Competition, with Golden Home Hardware partnering to supply the prizes.

While Home Hardware supported the event many years ago, this year’s relaunch is now being hosted by Eddie, inspired by a deep appreciation for the builders of Golden’s Christmas spirit over the years. The competition is dedicated to the legendary light displays once created by his grandfathers, Ray Tress and Ralph Leigan, two names forever tied to some of the most unforgettable holiday setups the town has ever seen.

Though Ray and Ralph never officially won a contest, their over-the-top displays were the stuff of local legend and a huge inspiration for what this competition still represents today: community pride, creativity, and a whole lot of Christmas cheer.

“I have always held fond memories of these competitions in my mind. Now, the inspiration to bring this event back to Golden was my wife and I in recent years, getting a hot chocolate for an evening of driving around looking at the light displays. It was last season, seeing all the work people had put into their displays, that we decided, let’s bring it back! I believe this is an event our community will love once again, and I’m really looking forward to its success.”

This year’s competition is open to homes and businesses, with three prize tiers sponsored in part by Home Hardware:

• $300 in gift cards for first place

• $200 for the second

• $100 for third

The entry deadline is December 12, with online public voting running from December 15 to 21. Winners will be announced on December 22, and a full community map of decorated properties will go live on December 15 for those who want to take a self-guided tour.

Participants can enter online at eddieleigan.com/HolidayLights or sign up in person at RE/MAX of Golden or Golden Home Hardware. Every entry receives a lawn sign featuring a QR code, making it easy for passersby to vote right from the street.

There’s no entry fee, but Eddie is asking participants to support the season’s needs by donating to the Golden Food Bank or the Golden Family Centre.

It’s a simple idea: brighten up the community, celebrate the season, and have a little fun while doing it. Golden tends to rise to the occasion, so expect the town to glow.
