Métis Nation Columbia River Society (MNCRS) is proud to invite the broader community of Golden and Area A to join in celebrating Métis Week, a time dedicated to honouring the rich culture, heritage, and contributions of the Métis people in Canada.

Taking place November 16 – 22, 2025, Métis Week is centred around Louis Riel Day, which commemorates the life and legacy of Louis Riel — a courageous political leader and tireless advocate for the rights and recognition of the Métis people. This day also marks the anniversary of Riel’s execution on November 16, 1885, serving as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made in the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality.

Throughout Métis Week, MNCRS will host a variety of ceremonies, educational programs, and community events designed to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and inspire a stronger future for all.

“This week is both a time of reflection and pride,” says Monica Parkinson, MNCRS Vice President. “It allows us to acknowledge past injustices while celebrating the vibrant, living culture and strength of the Métis people today.”

A highlight of this year’s celebration is the Métis Kitchen Party & Barn Dance, featuring the incredible left-handed fiddler Ryan Keplin — renowned for his energetic performances and traditional Métis music. This lively, family-friendly event invites everyone to experience the joy of Métis music, dance, and community spirit.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 years and under (babes in arms attend free). Tickets can be purchased in person at the MNCRS office, 611 10th Ave N, 2nd floor, using cash, debit, or credit or by email. To purchase by email, please introduce yourself, specify the number of tickets you wish to buy, and e-transfer the payment to this email address: metisnationcolumbiariver@gmail.com

Due to limited capacity and Métis Week preparations underway, please email ahead to confirm office availability before your visit.

The MNCRS encourages all community members to attend Métis Week events and take part in meaningful conversations that support our shared journey toward Truth and Reconciliation.

The event schedule can be found on our website https://metisnationcolumbiariver.org/metis-nation-columbia-river-society/ or our Facebook page.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
