The 2025 Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program is off to a vibrant start, with more than 15 local applicants receiving up to $500 each to bring free, community-based projects to life across Golden and the surrounding District Area A.
From local run clubs to library renovations, Canada Day celebrations, and soothing live music with local artists like Oh November, this year’s NSG program truly offers something for everyone.
“It’s been an exciting start to the program,” says Anthony Bayou, NSG Coordinator at the Golden & District Community Foundation. “It’s incredible to see our community coming together with such a wide range of projects. There’s real energy behind these initiatives, and we’re looking forward to a busy, meaningful summer.”
The first funded event of the season took place on June 8, when Charlotte Coleman hosted a family-friendly gathering at Tom Keeley Park in the Blaeberry. With the help of the Rotary Club, Charlotte brought neighbours together over a classic BBQ, kid-friendly crafts, and the chance for new residents, long-time locals, and nearby homeowners to connect and build community spirit.
Since then, the Small Town Race Series has hit the ground running, offering friendly race events on the first Sunday of each month.
Kara Mullin will host an NSG-funded book club at Whitetooth Brewing Co. on Thursday, July 17, at 7 pm – open to all who love books and conversation.
There’s still time to get involved. The Neighbourhood Small Grants program is rooted in a simple but powerful idea: the best people to bring a community together are the ones already living in it.
Grants of $50 to $500 are available to support ideas that build connection, celebrate diversity, and strengthen a sense of belonging. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to contribute.
