The Parson Community Hall Society is among 31 non-profit organizations across the Columbia Basin receiving support from Columbia Basin Trust to make their facilities more energy efficient, climate resilient, and better prepared for extreme weather events.
The Parson Community Hall Society will receive $168,044 to complete a series of major improvements at the Parson Community Hall, including installing fire-resistant exterior siding, increasing exterior insulation, adding insulation to the interior ceiling and basement floor, and installing drainage rock, weeping tile, and a new retaining wall. These upgrades will enhance both the energy efficiency and the long-term safety of the well-used community space.
“Non-profit organizations are essential to delivering the services and resources people depend on each day,” said Ulli Mueller, Senior Manager, Delivery of Benefits, Columbia Basin Trust. “By reducing costs, shifting energy use, and adapting to the impacts of climate change—like increased wildfire risk or extreme weather—non-profits can strengthen their sustainability and continue delivering the programs and supports people rely on to make life better.”
Through its Non-profit SMART (Sustainable, Mitigation, Adaptation and Resilience Transition) program, the Trust is investing over $1.5 million this fall to help 31 organizations across the Basin undertake projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve climate resilience. Projects include energy retrofits, solar installations, insulation and siding upgrades, and electric vehicle purchases with charging stations.
