After nearly 14 years at the helm of Tourism Golden, Executive Director Joanne Sweeting will retire at the end of 2025, marking the end of an era for one of the region’s most influential tourism leaders.
Sweeting’s tenure coincided with a period of sustained growth, diversification, and community engagement within Golden’s tourism sector.
Since joining the organization in 2012, she has played a central role in elevating Golden’s profile across British Columbia and beyond, helping the community establish itself as one of the province’s most respected destination marketing organizations.
Her leadership guided Tourism Golden through expanding year-round tourism offerings, forging strong partnerships at the regional, provincial and national levels, and fostering an environment where tourism supports, rather than overwhelms, community life.
Many local tourism entrepreneurs began their businesses during Sweeting’s time, often inspired or supported by the programs and momentum she helped generate.
“My time with Tourism Golden has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my career,” said Joanne Sweeting. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together — building a responsible, sustainable tourism industry that reflects the spirit of this community.”
Tourism Golden Board President Toby Barrett echoed that sentiment, noting the lasting imprint of her collaborative style.
“Joanne’s leadership has been instrumental in building Tourism Golden into a high-functioning and well-regarded organization,” Barrett said. “Her passion and her approach have left a legacy that will benefit Golden for years to come.”
Andy Brown to Step in as Tourism Golden’s New Executive Director
A year-long succession-planning process paved the way for her successor: Andy Brown, Tourism Golden’s current Communications Manager, who will assume the role of Executive Director beginning January 2026.
Brown has served with the organization for more than nine years, playing a key role in raising Golden’s profile across national and international media – coordinating press and influencer trips, and strengthening the destination’s reputation as an authentic mountain community.
His long experience within the organization and close working relationship with Sweeting made him the Board’s natural choice to carry the momentum forward.
“I’ve learned so much from Joanne over the years, and I’m really grateful for everything she’s done for this organization,” Brown said.
“Tourism Golden has such a strong foundation, and I’m looking forward to sharing Golden’s story out there in a way that makes our community proud.”
Sweeting will continue to work with Brown and the Board through the transition period to ensure continuity in leadership and the smooth transfer of responsibilities.
As Tourism Golden looks ahead, the organization remains focused on sustainable tourism growth, community collaboration, and promoting Golden’s unique mountain culture.
“As I look toward retirement, I feel deep gratitude for the partnerships and passion that have made our success possible, and confidence knowing Andy and the incredible team we have built will continue to achieve great things,” said Sweeting.
