Holiday Lights Contest shines bright in Golden

After a few quiet years, Eddie Leigan, REMAX of Golden, together with Golden Home Hardware, brought the Holiday Lights competition to make a strong comeback this season, and the community showed up in a big way.

The revived contest drew 27 decorated homes and generated nearly 400 votes over a week of online voting. For a first year back, organizers are calling it a clear success, not just for the numbers, but for the creativity it uncovered around town.

This year’s top displays were:

• 1st Place: 1413 Spruce Drive

• 2nd Place: 1500 Quartz Crescent

• 3rd Place: 1217 12th Street

Along the way, voters and organizers spotted plenty of stand-out ideas, including window light projections, tractors wrapped head to toe in lights, and an impressive collection of inflatable decorations. Some of the entries may never have been discovered without the contest, which was part of the fun.

Organizers extended a thank-you to everyone who took part, especially the households that put in the time, effort, and electricity to light up the neighbourhoods. With such a positive response, the Holiday Lights competition is officially set to return next year.

The message for 2026 is clear: start planning early, take advantage of those Boxing Day light sales, and get ready to raise the bar next holiday season.

More details about the contest can be found at eddieleigan.com/holidaylights.

The winners will receive Home Hardware Gift Cards, presumably to buy more Christmas lights.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
