Golden: Help us celebrate Women’s History Month with food and community

October is Women’s History Month in Canada. This year, the Golden Women’s Centre is inviting the community to come together to honour women’s stories, voices, and impact, through something that connects us all: food.

We invite local restaurants, cafés, and eateries to join the celebration by creating a special menu item inspired by women in history, with proceeds being donated to the Women’s Centre.

Your item could be:

● A cherished family recipe from a grandmother, aunt, or matriarch

● Inspired by an iconic woman in history

● Created by a woman cook, chef, bartender or barista

● A plate that tells a local story about women’s contributions

● The favourite dish or drink of an inspiring woman

● An existing menu item that’s always a hit, inspired or created by a woman

How It Works:

● Add your special dish to your menu for the month of October.

● Choose a donation amount for each dish sold (either a dollar value or percentage)

● Promote the dish in-house and through social media, sharing the story of the dish

● Funds raised will support the Golden Women’s Resource Centre, which provides vital programs and services to women and girls in our community.

Why Join?

● Celebrate women’s history and spark conversation at the table.

● Drive traffic to your business during the month of October.

● Support the Women’s Centre in a fun and meaningful way!

What You’ll Get

● Promotion on GWRC’s social media throughout the campaign. Feature in any local media coverage.

● Recognition on our website.

● Advertising on our Main Street window display.

● Photos of your dish being created and enjoyed

Deadline to Commit: Friday, September 26 at 4:00 pm

To sign up or learn more, contact the GWRC at 250-344-5317 or fill out this form: https://forms.gle/tro4zhfNKBUuQgCS7

  • Flashback Friday 📰 Fall 2001!

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
