For the third time in a row, we are sending an alpine skier from Golden/Kicking Horse to the BC Games!

On January 13 and 14, in very cold race conditions at Kimberley Alpine Resort, Haylee Laurell qualified to represent the Kootenay Zone at the BC games.ย  Although the resort did not open or run lifts due to the extreme cold that weekend, they allowed the Kimberley Alpine Team and Kootenay Zone to use a race run and shuttle kids from the lodge to the start gate in vehicles.

Haylee will be headed to Quesnel on February 21st with 15 other racers from across the Kootenay Zone (from Fernie, Kimberley, Whitewater and Red Mountain) and compete at Troll Mountain in 3 race events – GS, Parallel Slalom and Slalom.

Haylee has been racing with GKHAT since she was 4 years old. She has been an integral part of our club, and we wish her the best! She is very excited to participate and the opportunity to get to know other athletes. She is also proud to follow in her brother’s footsteps – he competed at the games last year!

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canadaโ€™s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, itโ€™s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
