Tell us a little about yourself and your connection to Golden: I was born into a farming family in Northumberland (the northernmost county in England). After high school, I attended what is now the University of West London, where I studied Business & Finance. A career in the corporate world took me to Iceland and Canada, where I gained my Canadian Citizenship.
Later, my wife and I decided to move to Canada permanently. We visited the Rocky Mountains in 2005, looking for a town with a ski hill that we could move to, and Golden was one of those towns. Returning twice more looking for a business to buy, we finally settled on the Golden Cinema and moved here in April 2007.
Since then, my family and I have worked and lived here in Golden. There have been challenges along the way, but I have never considered living anywhere else in all those nearly 20 years. I believe the next 20 years will offer many more opportunities as I see my grandkids grow up here. I hope that they will have an opportunity to have their first jobs at the movie theatre, as so many young people before them have done.
Why have you decided to run for Golden Town Council? I have had a long-term interest in running for town council. I believe that running for town council is a strong way to transition from a community observer to a community builder. Because local government directly handles the essential services that shape daily life, such as roads, parks, zoning, and emergency response, serving as a councillor gives an actual mechanism to implement lasting local change.
My life and business are currently in a place that allows me to commit to being available and doing a thorough job. Now is the right time for me; I feel ready and supported to take on the challenge and dedicate myself to serving on Council.
