The CPKC Holiday Train rolled into Golden earlier this week and once again delivered exactly what it promises: music, lights, community spirit, and meaningful support for a local cause.
Despite the cold, rainy weather, residents packed the CPKC rail yard for the festive evening, helping raise more than $13,300 for the Golden Food Bank. It was one of the strongest turnouts the event has seen locally, a clear sign that this annual stop has become a true holiday tradition.
The evening kicked off with a lively DJ set before the train arrived, followed by live music once it pulled in. Special thanks were extended to DJ Number One Dad, Art Hindmarch, and the Golden Fire Department for helping keep the night energetic, safe, and well-organized.
Behind the scenes, dozens of volunteers made the event run smoothly, with a big shout-out to the much-loved Cookie Committee, whose efforts are quickly becoming legendary.
Local businesses and organizations also stepped up in a big way, donating cookies, candy, and treats that helped create the warm, welcoming atmosphere the Holiday Train is known for.
Contributors included Tim Hortons, McDonaldโs, Ethos, Daley Bread, Bacchus Cafรฉ, Trinity Lutheran Church, Sunflower Sourdough, Red Apple, Great Canadian Dollar Store, Jitaโs Cafรฉ, Subway, Double Black Cafรฉ, CMH, Bluebird Cafรฉ, Peaks Grill, Papa Bearโs Cafรฉ, Dairy Queen, and 407 Boutique.
Organizers say the success of the night is a direct reflection of Goldenโs generosity and community pride. With food bank needs continuing to rise, the timing and impact of the Holiday Train could not have been more important.
As always, the Holiday Train managed to do more than put on a show. It brought people together, reminded everyone what the season is really about, and turned a winter evening into something that will be felt long after the lights disappeared down the tracks.
