CSRD seeks feedback on the future of garbage, recycling

Columbia Shuswap Regional District by Columbia Shuswap Regional District
October 3, 2025
in News

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is inviting members of the public to provide feedback on its draft Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP), which is the CSRDโ€™s long-term roadmap for managing garbage, recycling, and waste reduction.

The plan helps us make smart decisions to protect the environment, meet provincial requirements, and secure the infrastructure we need for years to come. The Ministry of Environment and Parks requires all regional districts to create and regularly update these plans to comply with provincial rules and adopt best practices.

Community members from across the region, Salmon Arm to Revelstoke and Golden, have the chance to share feedback on the draft SWMP through a location-based survey available online through the CSRD Connect portal.

Residents can use the links below to access the survey version applicable to their area.

Residents who complete the survey can sign up to win one of three $100 gift cards to spend at a local restaurant. The survey closes October 31, 2025.

โ€œWaste isnโ€™t free. Every item discarded carries a cost – from the resources used to make the item, to handling, processing and its environmental impact,โ€ says Ben Van Nostrand, General Manager, Environmental and Utility Services.

โ€œEffective waste management builds climate resiliency, operates efficiently, and keeps costs sustainable for the community. We want to hear from residents about their priorities. This survey will help us do that.โ€

Over the next five weeks, CSRD residents can also look forward to additional opportunities for discussing the draft SWMP in person. Residents can meet CSRD staff for coffee, cookies and conversation about the SWMP at a drop-in event in Golden at the Golden Senior Centre on Thursday, Oct. 9, 6-8 PM.

A series of pop-up events will also be held at landfills and transfer stations across the region to give residents a chance to ask questions, share ideas and learn more.
