The Golden Women's Resource Centre has been selected as the operator of a proposed housing development for women and children.

GOLDEN, B.C. – The Golden Women’s Resource Centre is excited to announce they have been selected as the operator for a proposed housing project for women and their children in Golden.

In partnership with BC Housing, the proposed development is a four-storey building featuring 23 homes for women and children leaving violence.

In January 2025, Premier David Eby declared gender-based violence an epidemic in B.C., highlighting the urgent need for action to support survivors. In recent years, Golden’s housing crisis has deepened concerns for women’s safety, often forcing them to choose between leaving the community or continuing to live in unsafe conditions.

Founded in 1978, the Golden Women’s Resource Centre has a long history of advocating for the safety and rights of women and children in our community. “After years of advocacy, we are eager to see this project come to fruition,” said Alycia Weir, Executive Director. “Our organization is grateful for the opportunity to expand the scope of our work and provide desperately needed safe, affordable housing for women and children in our community.

The development is currently before Council for consideration of variances to the Zoning Bylaw. To help advance the approval of this development, members of the public are encouraged to send letters of support to clerk@golden.ca by 9:00 a.m., Nov. 13, 2025, or drop off a copy at Town Hall.

  • Flashback Friday 📰 Fall 2001!

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
