Golden Women’s Resource Centre hires new Executive Director

We are excited to announce that Alycia Weir will be joining our team as the next Executive Director of the Golden Women’s Resource Centre. Alycia brings with her a passion for intersectional feminism and social justice.

She has extensive experience in social services, program management and community engagement. Alycia has worked at the Women’s Centre as the Girlz Group Coordinator (now GEM) and in Program Support and is excited about joining our team full-time.

“I want to thank Linley for the leadership that she has provided over the last 15 years at the Golden Women’s Resource Centre. She leaves behind a strong legacy and big shoes to fill. I am very excited to join the team and look forward to being part of the next chapter at the GWRC. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself the next time you are in.”

Alycia Weir, GWRC Executive Director

Alycia has served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for both the Golden Food Bank and Golden Family Center, sat on the granting committee of the Golden and District Community Foundation, supported the 2022 Pride celebration and currently volunteers with Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy.

“We are so grateful for the service that Linley McLean gave our organization for the past 15 years. She lead us into the organization we are today and we will miss her! We are thrilled to welcome her successor, Alycia Weir to the Women’s Centre.

We feel her professional and volunteer careers have prepared her to take the Golden Women’s Resource Centre into the next era of service in our community. Her passion for equality, acceptance, reconciliation, empowerment and feminism inspires us and will benefit the GWRC immensely.

We are fortunate to have truly amazing staff and volunteers who are dedicated to protecting, uplifting and empowering the women and children in Golden. We look forward to the future and increased capacity to offer service in our community with our excellent community partners, funders and generous donors.”

Courtney Allen, Chair, GWRC Board of Directors

Alycia began her position on April 8, so please stop by and say hello.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
