Work is underway to renew the Golden Municipal Airport runway for the Airport Airfield Rehabilitation project.
This project will improve aviation safety and regulatory compliance and support airport business development.
The project, which will mill and repave the runway, is funded through a $2 million grant from the BC Air Access Program, just over $650,000 from the Economic Opportunity Fund, and $250,000 from the Town of Golden.
This work is being done as one of the recommendations from the Golden Municipal Airport Strategic & Tactical Plan, which was completed in 2021 as part of an economic viability study.
The economic viability study evaluated airport infrastructure, operations, and financial standing and engaged more than 600 residents and regional and national stakeholders in the airport’s future.
The results of this study led to the council’s unanimous vote to continue operating the airport and the adoption of the strategic and tactical plan.
