Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is having a season locals will be talking about for years.
The resort has officially recorded its snowiest December ever, with an extraordinary 340 centimetres (roughly 11 feet) of snow falling on the mountain in December alone.
That surge shattered all previous December snowfall records and set the tone for what is shaping up to be a banner winter in Golden.
Thanks to a steady parade of Pacific storm systems, total snowfall for the season has already climbed past 540 centimetres, opening the entire 3,486-acre ski area with deep coverage from alpine bowls to lower mountain runs. Skiers and riders are reporting consistently soft conditions, strong base depth, and classic Kicking Horse powder days that are arriving early and often.
Resort officials describe the conditions as exceptional, noting that the combination of cold temperatures and frequent snowfall has created an ideal snowpack. With more snow in the forecast, thereโs growing optimism that this winter could rank among the strongest seasons the resort has ever seen.
The record snowfall is also giving a boost to winter tourism in Golden, drawing visitors eager to experience legendary terrain under prime conditions. At the same time, locals and travelers are being reminded to allow extra travel time, stay informed about road conditions, and follow mountain safety guidelines during periods of heavy snowfall.
For now, one thing is clear: winter showed up in a big way this year, and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is reaping the rewards.
