Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis is sharply criticizing the province’s latest budget, calling it “B.C.’s worst budget to date” in a recent social media response.
McInnis has focused much of his reaction on what he sees as the budget’s broader impact on vulnerable and rural populations.
He has echoed concerns that the plan amounts to what he describes as an “assault on seniors,” while also warning that rural communities are being left behind in key areas such as healthcare and service delivery.
He has also framed the budget as lacking meaningful support for rural British Columbia, noting that it offers little targeted investment for smaller communities despite ongoing challenges with access to care and recruitment of healthcare professionals.
In previous comments tied to the budget rollout, McInnis warned that continued deficit spending risks shifting financial pressure onto future taxpayers, while rising debt-servicing costs could limit funding for essential services.
At the same time, he has argued that the path forward lies in growing the province’s economic base.
In response to questions about long-term priorities, McInnis said B.C. needs to “turbo-charge our economy as we’ve never seen before,” adding that fast-tracking resource development should be part of the solution.
Taken together, his remarks position the budget as one that not only raises fiscal concerns, but also fails to deliver for seniors and rural healthcare needs across regions like Columbia River-Revelstoke.
McInnis Endorses Milobar for B.C. Conservative Leadership
Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis has officially endorsed Peter Milobar in the race for leadership of the B.C. Conservative Party.
In a statement released February 25, McInnis said Milobar brings decades of experience and a strong understanding of the challenges facing the province.
“Peter is a leader who understands the seriousness of the situation in B.C. and has real ideas to restore the economy,” McInnis said.
McInnis also pointed to Milobar’s record in fiscal management and public service, adding that strong leadership requires a clear vision.
“Peter has what it takes to bring our caucus and party to the next level while delivering what British Columbians are asking for, an economy that gives back to them,” he said.
Milobar currently serves as MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson and has held roles including Kamloops mayor and finance critic.
McInnis represents Columbia River-Revelstoke and currently serves as the party’s critic for Tourism and Resort Municipalities, the Columbia River Treaty, and Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.
