A local initiative aimed at revitalizing the forestry sector and strengthening the regional economy has received a major boost. The Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce (KHCCC) has been awarded $182,018.75 in funding through the Province of British Columbia’s Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP).
The funding supports KHCCC’s project titled “Leveraging Technology and Partnerships to Enhance the Forestry Sector and Workforce in Golden and Area A,” which was submitted under the Forest Impact Transition stream of REDIP.
The approved grant will fund two primary project activities: a feasibility study for a Clean Energy project in Golden and expanded business services to foster economic development in the region.
The feasibility study will explore options for supporting clean energy development and reducing carbon emissions.
In support of local businesses, the grant will also fund website and online commerce development for the KHCCC, additional digital marketing assets, and administrative support for the project.
“This funding marks a significant step forward for our region,” says Melanie Myers, Executive Director of KHCCC. “We’re deeply committed to building a resilient, diversified economy that supports both people and the environment.”
The project is slated to begin over the summer months and continue through February 2027, with milestones including the completion of the feasibility study and rollout of business support services.
“We’re proud to see momentum building behind this initiative,” added Myers.
“With this funding, we can begin laying the foundation for long-term economic and environmental sustainability in Golden and Area A.”
