Residental fire on Deer Ridge, house destroyed

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, the Golden-Field RCMP received a request to assist the Golden Fire Department for a camper trailer on fire on the 1400 block of Deer Ridge Rd in Golden, BC. Unfortunately the surrounding property also caught fire, but the fire department was able to contain the flames to one property and everyone safely evacuated from the residence.

“Our team has had a busy couple of weeks. Over the weekend, in addition to attending the house fire, the fire department attended three motor vehicle incidents and three medical calls,” said Fire Chief Mike Pecora. “This was all in the wake of providing mutual aid to the Nicholson Fire Department when the Dogtooth wildfire crossed the river near Parson on July 24. I am incredibly proud of my team and their dedication over the past couple of weeks.”

“We remained on scene until 8 a.m. to investigate the cause of the fire alongside the Golden Fire Department, and we were able to conclude that the fire was not criminal in nature,” advises Constable Connor Neil with the Golden-Field RCMP. “We got the call around 3:00 a.m. and fire crews were on the scene within seven minutes,” said Fire Chief Pecora. “We arrived at a fully involved house fire due to an RV that caught fire outside of the home. All occupants of the home made it out safely.”

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
