Wildsight: Summer 2025 a great time to switch to a heat pump

Heat pump: As summer temperatures rise and winter heating bills loom just months ahead, now is the ideal time for Golden residents to consider replacing their old wood stoves with modern, energy-efficient heat pumps. Thanks to rebates from both the provincial CleanBC program and the BC Lung Foundation, making the switch is easier than ever.

Heat pumps are a smart, climate-friendly alternative to wood stoves.

They provide cleaner, more efficient heating in the winter and offer the added bonus of air conditioning during the summer months – a growing necessity as our community faces increasingly hotter summers. With wildfires and heat waves becoming more common, itโ€™s critical that residents have access to more adaptable home heating and cooling solutions.

Through CleanBC, homeowners can access substantial rebates – up to $19,000 – towards the installation of a heat pump system.

To make the transition even easier, Wildsight Golden is offering additional local rebates for residents who use wood as a primary source of heating and would like to transition to a less polluting heat pump system, a pellet stove or a cleaner burning wood stove, helping to offset costs further and ensure more people in our community can take advantage of cleaner technology.

These rebates can be combined with other provincial and federal financial incentives designed to reduce energy consumption in our homes.

Switching from woodstoves to heat pumps also improves air quality in our valley, reducing smoke-related health issues during the colder months. Itโ€™s a change that supports both personal comfort and environmental stewardship.

Donโ€™t wait for the next cold snap or heatwave – explore your rebate options now and learn how a heat pump can keep your home comfortable year-round.

For more information on local rebate support, contact goldenairquality@wildsight.ca, visit wildsight.ca/branches/golden/programs/air-quality, or come for a chat at our booth at the Golden Farmers Markets over the summer.

Renovating? Building? More rebates are available for heat pumps:

BCHydro is offering several rebates and free offers for making smart energy choices. Get up to $2000 in rebates for upgrading your existing space heating system with a more efficient heat pump.

Heat pumps move heat from one place to another, as opposed to converting fuel or electricity into heat like electric furnaces or baseboard heaters. Plus, enjoy the added benefit of A/C in our increasingly hot summers.ย

You can also get up to $1200 for new insulation in attics, exterior walls and more, as well as up to $2000 for installing energy-efficient windows and exterior doors. Upgrading insulation like this will help prevent drafts and save energy, reducing your costs and potentially helping you qualify for a heat pump.

CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program

Based on your household income, the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program (formerly the Income Qualified Program) offers enhanced rebates to make energy-saving home upgrades more affordable.

Up to $19,000 in heat pump rebates and up to $5000 towards electrical service upgrades

Who Can Apply: B.C. citizens who live in an eligible home, meet income qualification requirements, and have residential utility accounts with BC Hydro, FortisBC, or a municipal utility

The application and supporting documentation must be submitted by the program-registered contractor within six (6) months of the invoice date

For assistance with this program, contact an Energy Saving Program Energy Coach by email at betterhomesESPโ€‹@clearesultโ€‹.com or by phone at 1-833-856-0333.
