Donald Gary Mann was born in Calgary, Alberta, on April 30, 1951, at the General Hospital. He passed away in Calgary on May 13, 2026, having just celebrated his 75th birthday. Gary grew up in Calgary, finishing his formal schooling at Bishop Grandin High School.
In 1969, Gary started a long and varied work career as a rodman in seismic exploration for oil and gas. This work took him from Canada’s High Arctic and East Coast to many countries around the world. Returning to Canada, he continued in seismic operations as a private contractor. Once the seismic work tapered off, Gary worked in facility operation and maintenance with Canyon Meadows Golf Club, Lake Louise Ski Hill and the Springbank Arena. Semi-retirement found him in Golden, BC, where he kept busy maintaining various properties. As a result of increasing impacts from the effects of Alzheimer’s, Gary moved back to the Calgary area in 2022 and into direct care in 2023.
He is predeceased by his parents, Don and Agnes Mann and brother Sean Mann. He is lovingly remembered by sisters Janet Hilman (Darrel), Coleen Lewis-Watts and Patsy Drysdale, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 PM, May 28, at Sacred Heart Church in Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Smile.
