It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Marlene Wright on July 27, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta, shortly after celebrating her 79th birthday.
Marlene was born in Lumby, British Columbia, on July 14, 1947, where she grew up alongside her three brothers, three sisters, and best childhood friend, Judy. After spending time in Vernon, she later moved to Golden, B.C., where she would eventually reside for 68 years. During her time there, she became an amazing mom, selflessly raising her two boys, Eric and Darren, creating a warm home for her family.
Over the years, Marlene worked a variety of jobs, spending the longest portion of her career at the Saan Store. The co-workers and people she met there meant the world to her, and those connections blossomed into many deep, lifelong friendships.
In her free time, Marlene simply enjoyed time with family and meeting up with friends. She had a passion for movies, bingo, loved travelling—especially her trips to Hawaii and Mexico—and held a true love for fishing, spending many hours both casting from shore along the Columbia River or belly boating with a friend on Blackwater Lake.
She will be warmly remembered and dearly missed by her family, former colleagues, and lifelong friends.
Family and friends are encouraged to remember Marlene in their own personal way, whether through quiet reflection or sharing a favourite memory.
