Golden and District Search and Rescue opened its doors to the community recently to show off its facilities, equipment and the volunteer’s capabilities.

GADSAR’s new building was the highlight of the event, which has equipment storage and a lock-up facility for response vehicles and equipment that is rescue-ready, secure and protected from the elements.

The structure was built by Peak Construction Golden and made possible by community grants and donations.

“Thank you so much to the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, Columbia Basin Trust, British Columbia Search and Rescue Association, Pacific Woodtech, Friends and Family of Shane Schroeder and other various, valued donors, partners and volunteers,” said GADSAR, during the event.

The Sept. 9 event, was also a celebration for the 10th annual visit from the Friends and Family of Shane Schroeder.

In December 2013, the Schroeders lost a son, brother and friend.

“Since then we have developed a close relationship with them, enjoyed their support, and sense of community and have been inspired by them. This year the Friends and Family of Shane Schroeder presented GADSAR with a generous donation of almost $10,000,” said GADSAR.
