Witches traded in their brooms for paddleboards as they glided over the waters of the Columbia River on Oct. 22.

Dozens of paddlers who are part of the Golden’s Active Ladies dressed up in their most ‘be-witching’ attire for the first-ever event in Golden.

“We had such a blast, everyone stayed dry and the sun, blue sky and company were perfect,” said Lolli Gagnon on Facebook about the event.

Elsewhere in the province, witches have been taken to waters for the paddling events. In the Okanagan, the Wood Lake Water Witches gathered for the weird, wacky and wonderful event on Oct. 15. While in East Kootenays on Sept. 28, a black-hatted coven worked their magic at Tie Lake.

Another witch paddle event is planned to take place at Kal Beach at noon on Oct. 28.

Hundreds of witches are expected at the Coldstream event.

All are welcome and strongly encouraged to dress up. “The darker and ‘witchier’ the better for a spooky vibe on the lake,” said event organizer Ashley Reich.

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canadaโ€™s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, itโ€™s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
