Four Points Books: A Book A Day Book Review - "A Winter Grave"

A Winter Grave by Peter May

Four Points Books, Golden BC – A Winter Grave By Peter May

Yes, another Peter May book. I just canโ€™t help myself, he is so good.

A Winter Grave is a recent stand-alone book so it can be read anytime. Set in the near future with revelations of the past, it really made me think about what could be coming while I was trying to figure out what was happening next. Definitely one of those books you want to race through your day for so you can read more!

A man is found frozen upside down in a tunnel of ice high on a mountaintop in Scotland by a meteorologist checking weather patterns, and yes, he is very dead.

It would be easy in that climate and location to assume that perhaps he had an ice-climbing accident and just call the case closed, but thatโ€™s no fun.

So, the investigation begins and we are taken once again to a majestic Scottish landscape and submersed into a mind-twisting, action-packed, suspenseful story complete with cozy fires, an abundance of scotch and complicated relationships to keep us guessing.

The amount of research a writer does is fascinating to me and I tend to gravitate towards books that are heavily researched. In this case, the author would have consulted with Environmentalists, Scientists, Engineers, a Coroner and so many more. All of this adds to the reality of these unreal worlds we delve into.

I donโ€™t normally read books that give glimpses of the future and I will admit that I really enjoyed this aspect of the story. It just proves that reading can broaden your scope so to speak.

And on that note, I have promised myself that I am going to get into some of the genres I donโ€™t normally choose, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime though, I am always happy to talk about this and all the other books Iโ€™ve read, reviewed and loved!
