On Friday, September 4, 2026, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Golden-Field RCMP and other emergency personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive woman in Golden.
The woman, an elderly international visitor who was travelling through the community, had reportedly stopped in Golden to rest after feeling unwell. She had been resting in her vehicle before getting out to use a nearby public washroom, where she experienced an apparent medical emergency.
Despite the efforts of first responders, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service attended and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Criminality is not suspected.
Authorities are working with the appropriate embassy to assist in notifying and supporting the woman’s family. Her identity will not be released out of respect for her family and pending the completion of notification procedures.
“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and travelling companions during this very difficult time,” said Sgt. Mitch Mercier, Golden-Field RCMP detachment commander. “We would also like to thank the first responders and members of the public who assisted at the scene.”
No further information is expected to be released at this time.
