As sunny days and warmer temperatures arrive, many residents are welcoming the signs of summer. Unfortunately, the change in season also signals the return of a familiar nuisance — mosquitoes.
The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) administers mosquito control programs in Golden and surrounding areas each year to help reduce mosquito populations and limit their impact on residents and visitors. The program is expected to begin soon, with monitoring and treatment efforts focused on managing mosquito breeding areas throughout the region.
Residents in Golden and Area A are encouraged to participate by reporting mosquito activity directly to the program’s contractor through an online reporting tool: https://www.mbl-gis.com/reporter/ (or scan QR code to the right).
The form includes a mapping feature that allows users to pinpoint areas where mosquitoes are particularly active. This feedback helps identify problem locations and supports informed decisions about where control efforts are most needed.
While regional programs play an important role, residents can also take simple steps at home to help reduce mosquito populations. Eliminating standing water — a key breeding habitat — can make a noticeable difference. Cleaning out gutters, emptying containers, maintaining bird baths, and ensuring proper drainage around the property can all help limit mosquito activity early in the season.

A little prevention now can help make the warmer months more enjoyable!
