The Golden & District Minor Hockey Association (GDMHA) recently announced it has received a donation of 17 brand new sets of hockey equipment, courtesy of the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) Goals & Dreams fund. This donation will go towards helping many Golden youth get involved in the game.
GDMHA has been working hard to promote hockey among girls in our community. The new female-only program, which launched in 2022, welcomed 25 new players last year, doubling the number of female participants in the area.
In 2023-24, GDMHA is offering a Sunday Skill Session to all GDMHA female players, focusing on acquiring skills, as well as the possibility to play on a U11-U13 tournament female-only team. GDMHA hosted their first female home tournament last weekend, welcoming U13 teams from Calgary and Cochrane.

“At GDMHA we believe that removing financial and accessibility barriers for our female player will help to keep them playing for many years, especially as they grow, and gear becomes more expensive,” said Jessica Chagnon, GDMHA Female Development Coordinator of 2022-23.
“The NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund is proud to make this donation to help GDMHA provide more opportunities for youth in the Golden community play the game. With these 17 sets of new hockey equipment, we look forward to seeing the participation in their female youth program continue to grow,” said Devin Smith, NHLPA Goals & Dreams Chairman.
