GKHAT hosts first Zone Race

With the help of head coach Ryan Ford, GKHAT extended its ski cross course in order to host a 3-day, fun-filled event!

With almost 100 athletes racing from the Kootenays, Alberta, and the Yukon, the weekend was overall a success.

Unfortunately, the weather made the event challenging. With thick fog lying precisely at the elevation of the course, the visibility was deemed unsafe for a full event. Regrettably, only the course inspection and training runs were completed before this.

With the organizers feeling confident on Saturday, the time trials were able to elapse.

Unfortunately, the ladders and heats were once again cancelled. GKHAT’s Walter Adams ended up with the fastest U12 time, winning him a Gold medal, his first podium! His teammates are Sebastian Baker (U14) and Cole Cadrin (U16).

Finally, after two days of challenges, Sunday had clear enough weather to run the ski cross! With some fierce racing and great sportsmanship, the day went as planned, finishing the event off with a bang! Cole Cadrin landed on top of the podium in the U16 event, along with Sebastian Baker with a silver and Orson Paddock in fourth place in the U14 boys category.

On the girls’ U14 side, Lillian Audet placed fourth, along with Daisy Bracko in eighth. On the U12 side, Aleks Lenz won his category, claiming gold, with Charlie Madill in 6th and Walter Adams in 8th.  Overall, a strong showing from our GKHAT club.

GKHAT would like to extend its gratitude to the fifty volunteers needed to run this event, to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort for building us a beautiful course, to the Golden Bakery for providing food and to IGA for donating to the event. This event could not have happened without you. Also, big congratulations to the GKHAT board for all their hours in planning this incredible event.

  • Flashback Friday 📰 Fall 2001!

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canada’s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
