Golden Rockets U11 Team wins banner tournament in Kalispell, MT

This past weekend, the Golden Rockets U11 female hockey team made history, claiming the championship and winning the coveted banner at the league final tournament held in Kalispell, MT.

Despite facing challenging ice conditions on an outdoor rink with mild temperatures and rain, the team demonstrated exceptional grit and resilience to secure the victory.

The tournament marked a special moment for the growing sport of female hockey in the region, as it was the inaugural year for the U11 female East Kootenay league. With teams from Whitefish, Cranbrook, and Golden participating, the league has already shown impressive growth potential, reflecting a bright future for girls’ hockey.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated coaches and the team manager, whose commitment and leadership have been pivotal in guiding the team to success.

Their tireless efforts behind the scenes have not only prepared the players for game day but have also instilled a sense of pride and community that resonates far beyond the rink. The team’s victory in Kalispell is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting future for female hockey in the Kootenay region.

This accomplishment builds on the success of the local female hockey development program, which kicked off three years ago with the formation of the inaugural all-female team. The program’s momentum has continued, now featuring two teams, including a U15 girls team that has also seen their share of great accomplishments.

These achievements underscore the community’s commitment to nurturing young female talent and promoting gender equity in sports.

Congratulations to the Golden Rockets U11 female team on their well-deserved championship win and to all the players and teams for their ongoing achievements this season!

Now, 25 years later, it’s time to celebrate!
