It’s been a winter to remember for Golden’s Roxy Coatesworth.
In her first season competing in ski cross at the continental level, Coatesworth did far more than simply find her footing. She captured the 2025/26 FIS NorAm Ski Cross overall title, an achievement that marks her arrival as one of Canada’s rising talents in the sport.
Winning a NorAm title is no small feat. The circuit is stacked with seasoned racers pushing for World Cup starts and national team spots. For a rookie to emerge on top speaks to consistency, composure, and a level of competitiveness that goes well beyond “first-year learning experience.”
Coatesworth delivered steady results all season long, building momentum with each start and proving she belonged in the mix.
Her 2026 campaign began on a high note at Nakiska, where she claimed victory at the Canadian Ski Cross National Championships.
The win not only added a national title to her résumé, but it also opened the door to ski up with Team Canada’s Next Gen Ski Cross Team. That opportunity meant stepping into faster training environments, deeper fields, and a sharper level of competition.
Soon after, she found herself overseas racing on the Europa Cup circuit. Competing against experienced international athletes is a different challenge altogether, but Coatesworth rose to it. She posted several strong finishes throughout the tour, gaining valuable experience in varied snow conditions and demanding tracks. The highlight came in Reiteralm, Austria, where she earned her first Europa Cup victory. For any athlete, a first international win is a defining moment. For a rookie in her debut continental season, it signals serious potential.
Still, those close to Coatesworth know that the results only tell part of the story. This year was about growth. Transitioning into ski cross at this level requires adaptability, resilience, and the willingness to embrace a steep learning curve. From navigating chaotic heats to refining race tactics and starts, she leaned into the process.
Confidence builds quickly when preparation meets opportunity, and Coatesworth made the most of both.
By season’s end, she had secured a NorAm overall title, a national championship win, and meaningful international experience against some of the sport’s top up-and-coming competitors. It’s a foundation many athletes take years to establish.
For a skier from a small mountain town competing on the international stage, it’s a season that stands out. More importantly, it feels like the beginning of something bigger. If this rookie year is any indication, Roxy Coatesworth is just getting started.
