The Golden Food Bank is shining a light on its weekly meal-kit program, an initiative that makes it easier for local households to cook healthy, affordable meals without the usual stress of grocery shopping.
Each week, the Food Bank releases a Recipe of the Week, complete with all the ingredients needed to make it at home. The kits rotate through comfort food, international dishes, and plant-forward options so people can try something new without blowing their budget.
Recipe of the Week for November 25th – 28th and the Signature meal kits offering this coming week are as follows:
• Spaghetti Carbonara
A silky, savoury classic made with creamy eggs, crispy bacon, and perfectly cooked pasta. Simple ingredients, big comfort.
• Glory Bowls (carrots, beets, spinach)
Vibrant, nutrient-packed bowls layered with roasted carrots, earthy beets, fresh spinach, and a bright, satisfying dressing.
• Classic GFB Chilli
A hearty, slow-simmered chilli loaded with beans, spices, and deep, comforting flavour. A signature cozy-weather staple.
November’s $10 Pantry Staple meal kit is a Lentil Shepherd’s Pie – A cozy, plant-based twist on a classic comfort food—hearty lentils simmered in rich gravy and topped with creamy mashed potatoes for an easy, satisfying meal.
A recent week’s lineup included Mushroom Stroganoff (featuring locally grown oyster mushrooms from Mushroom Will), a quick Beef and Bell Pepper Stir Fry, and a warming Chicken Madras Curry.
The real win is the pricing structure, which is deliberately built so everyone in town can participate, whether they’re stretching their grocery dollars or looking to support the program.
Meal Kit price options:
• $0 — Food Bank Pantry Staples Kit. One free Pantry Staples kit is available monthly to anyone using the Food Bank’s emergency food services.
• $10 — Pantry Staples Kit. A low-cost basic kit with essential ingredients for simple, nourishing meals.
• $15 — Signature Meal Kit. This covers about half the true cost of the recipe kit and helps keep the program running.
• $20 — Support the Program. An option for those who want to contribute a little extra to ensure long-term sustainability.
• $25 — Buy One, Give One. When you choose this tier, you take home a meal kit and fund another kit for a local household in need.
The Food Bank says demand for meal support continues to rise, and programs like this help bridge the gap by offering high-quality, low-stress meal options the community can count on.
If you want to try the Recipe of the Week or support the program, stop by the Golden Food Bank Monday to Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Payment is accepted by card, e-transfer or exact change.
If you want to stay up-to-date on the program and what recipes and meal kits are offered each week, subscribe to their weekly menu newsletter.
Meal Kit Gift Cards are now available at the GFB for $25. These could be great gifts at Christmas.
This is a gift that gives twice because the recipient gets a meal, and it provides a meal kit to a local family in need.
